FILMS
Every now and again I make absolutely idiotic short films with friends and local volunteers. Stuff like this!
Final Round Another film done as part of my Film and TV course at Aberystwyth. I was writer, director, and editor.
Vigilante I served as the writer, editor, and special effects monkey on this as part of my Film and TV course at Aberystwyth University. It has head explosions and Minor Threat. You can ask no more of a student film.
Senor Cojones A tale of high adventure involving a dinosaur, a Mexican wrestler, and some guns. This was filmed in an afternoon round the back of my old primary school and edited over the course of a few disastrous weeks that claimed my computer’s life and my first 80%-done edit. As always, we’re just messing about a bit. Apologies to the Spanish language.
Manosaurus Rex This started as a practice for kung fu, but I liked it so much I stuck some dialogue on it and gave it one of my favourite spare titles. It’s been said it makes it sound like a gay porn movie, but at least the traffic might jump up a bit. This was my first attempt at digital squibs and gunfire as well. Not an awful first effort, but I’m getting better. Laters!
The Man With Skeleton Eyes (Trailer) This was my effort at making a Brian De Palma/Giallo movie, but, to be honest, it was very long-winded, slightly unfinished, and my script was shitty. It was ace fun to make though, shot, as it was, on a beach and in my mate Geoff’s house. We had a couple of enthusiastic volunteers from Shooting People and some help from the guys in Micrographia who allowed us to use their ace music, but I was frankly rubbish at everything. On the plus side, there was enough violence and odd shots to make quite a fun trailer, so here it is!
Super VengeanceMade in January 2007 over the course of three days as part of the Really Restrictive Shorts event in Llangollen. It was subsequently screened in front of an awful lot of people at the Llangollen Pavillion. A brilliant and completely terrifying experience. It’s not any good but we made a few people laugh. That’ll do! Below is an interview with 4 dashing young fellows about the making of the film! (Note: We hadn’t made it yet, so it’s not very enlightening.)
Focus 23 My very first short film! It was shown at the Tromafling Edinburgh festival. We weren’t there so we don’t know if they totally hated it. We can only assume. Some little indie TV channel owns the rights to it but I’ve forgotten what they’re called and have never seen them on the telly. We didn’t get any money for it anyway but at least two people liked it. It’s ten minutes long and I don’t know if it makes any sense. It was rewritten after it was shot, you see. The film was made over the course of three days with local ace people who worked just for the fun of it. We had to rerecord the dialogue bits off a television because Geoff’s camera refused to give us our sound through the computer. That’s why some bits sound dead fuzzy. Anyway, good fun. Some of it I hate, some of it I like, but you gotta start somewhere.
